Longwood - April 2013

I went back to Longwood again just this past Friday.  It was really a perfect day, no work, gorgeous weather, only doing things that I think are fun (Longwood, Ikea, seeing friends).  And I was just getting over a miserable head cold, so it was the kind of day that makes you happy to be alive.  I went with my friend Karyn from work, it was super crowded for a Friday, it was peak Tulip season.  We had been planning to shoot with tripods but because of running late, the crowds and a few other things I skipped it and just went back to using only my 100L handheld.

This is one of my new favorites. I think it is getting blown up for the wall in our bedroom above my dresser.

Longwood March 2013

Towards the end of March I went to Longwood with a couple of my photography girls.  I had to cut the day a bit shorter than I had planned to go to a friends baby shower but it was still a fun morning!  Hopefully we can all go again in a couple of months when we can shoot more outside.  We have never done a big get together there during the summer months. Even with the limited time I did get a few shots I was happy with.

Longwood June 2012

Back in June a friend of mine from work Karyn and I took a trip to Longwood on a weeknight after work.  She had just gotten a new macro lens for her Sony mirrorless camera and wanted to test it out.  As cool as those cameras are, watching her use it for macros made me really glad for my big bulky DSLR.  Hard as it is to nail focus with macros, it's much easier with a DSLR.

We mostly focused on shooting outside to start, I rarely get to be there in the evening and I wanted to play with the light.

I didn't even notice the little bug on this while I was shooting!

I was really excited to get to play with a longer lens with the waterlilies! Though I need to go back earlier in the day when there will be more light.

Eventually I had to switch from my 180L to my old standby 100L (thank goodness for IS) as we were losing light, I just couldn't keep shooting at 1/400 and f/4!

The new light installation they have going on for the summer had just started up that week and it looked amazing! I can't wait to go back in August with Amanda and shoot that at night!

Longwood 35mm

I bought a roll of Kodak Porta 800 that I was looking to try out and Longwood seemed like the perfect place for a roll of color negative film.

Those purple poppies again!

I think I have this shot from almost every roll, but it feels different each time.
