Our Honeymoon

We traveled to Kauai for 7 days around our one year anniversary. We based most of our activities on information from The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed.

A+ - Beautiful condo, great price (through travelocity). Everything was brand new, wonderfully taken care of. The location was perfect, on the east side of Kauai, with Safeway right across the street. I would stay there again in a second. Actually if we had the money we would buy one of the condos.
B - It was great to be able to put the top down. We didn't have any problems with the car or Hertz. But you have to catch a shuttle at Li'hue to get to Hertz which was a pain, the car had a lot of dings and scratches that we had to note on the rental form and it smelled a little like wet feet in there (likely from people getting in the car with wet beach feet).

Activities

A+ - The crew was incredible, even when Mike got super seasick on the trip back to Kauai. The views were amazing, we saw several humpback whales, bottlenosed dolphins, and a monk seal. Snorkeling was fun, they even provided noodles so you could just relax while you snorkeled. Lunch was very tasty.
A+ - We both LOVED the helicopter tour, it was our favorite activity of the whole trip. Yes it was cold up there, dress for it. The views were AMAZING! It had been raining too much in the moutains to swim at the waterfall, but it was nice to sit down, have a snack, watch the waterfall before we finished the tour.
C - The score is more a reflection of how cheesy we thought the whole evening was, that is probably the highest score I would give any luau. That being said, I have seen much nicer gardens, the dinner tasted good but it was hard to find a seat if you weren't part of a big group that had reserved seats (they didn't mark the unreserved table well). The show was decent if you like that kind of thing, we don't. But we are still glad we went.
A+ - Ziplining was SO much fun. It was over a bit too fast but we both really enjoyed it. The guides were nice and kept the hiking pace between ziplines slow (good for not triggering Mike's asthma). Lunch was really tasty and the swimming was fun, though chilly.

Sights

Scenic Overlook on 50 on the way to Port Allen
Worth a quick stop on your drive by, it's a very nice view. It is on the inland side of the road.
Kauai Coffee
Lots of coffee flavors to try for free. We only stopped for maybe 10 minutes, wasn't very entertaining.
Waimea Canyon
Fun drive (especially with the top down on the car). It took us the better part of a day to drive up, stopping at the overlooks along the way, and eating lunch at the lodge near the end of the road.
Ho'opi'i Falls
Not really worth the hike for us, we aren't really hikers and it was as bit hard to find the acutal waterfall.
Wailua Falls
Much more our speed, just drive up and park near the falls. Well worth the quick drive.
Kilauea Lighthouse
Like a postcard! Stop at the overlook before you drive out for the big picture view. Seemed to be a good spot for whale watching.
North Shore Beaches
We just drove out to the end of the road and stopped at a couple of places along the way. Ha'ena Beach and Ke'e Beach among them.
Hanalei Valley Lookout
Another postcard view.
Queen's Bath
Well worth the hike down to the water. It was a stunning view. The best view on the island maybe.
Spouting Horn
Another site that you can practically drive up to. Very fun to watch!
